Abstract
Since the advent of sensitive noninvasive methods to imagine the abdomen such as computed tomographic scanning, the finding of the incidental adrenal msss has become fairy common. And these incidentally discovered adrenal tumors are termed in
generl as
"Incidentaloma". These adrenal incidentalomas reveal diverse conditions¡¦adrenocortical adenoma, metastases, pheochromocytomas, cysts and myelolipoma, etc.
The authors experienced an unusual case of adrenal myelolipoma which incidentally detected at CT scanning in a patient who complains mild RUQ discomfort. Myelolipoma of the adrenal gland is a rare and benign tumor composed of fat and
hematopoietic
tissues resembling bone marrow. In general, myelolipomas are considered to be incidental findings that do not alter adrenal function.
Adrenal myelolipomas havd often been found in patients with chronic and stressful conditions, such as major burns. infections, arteriosclerosis, and cancer. All of these clinical states may be associated with exess cortisol production. These
associations may indicate that overproduction of steroid initiates the development of adrenal myelolipoma.
